A Study on IPA of the Care helper¡¯s Tasks

Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the roles of care helpers through job analysis. To do this, this study used the Importance Performance Analysis(IPA). A total of 271 care helpers working in nursing facilities and community senior service facilities across in the Gyeong-sangnam-do of South Korea were surveyed. The collected data were analyzed using PASW 18.0 software. Five duties and 22 tasks were identified based on the job model and service delivery methods were classified with direct and indirect supports. The results of the analysis are as follows£ºFirst, overall, indirect performance degree were less than direct performance degree. And there was a significant difference between the importance and the performance of the care helper`s tasks, and there was some gap between the importance and the performance of the care helper`s tasks. Second, in most of the tasks, it is higher importance than performance. Third, high importance and high performance areas were administrative support duties, functional recovery area. On the other hand, low importance and low performance areas were indirect support of the housekeeping and daily activity assistance, indirect support of the emotional support, indirect support of the physical activity area. Based on these results, this study attempts to draw the priorities of the care helper`s tasks and those to be promoted and improved to contribute to providing base line data necessary for setting the professional improvement strategies and directions of long-term care services in the future.
